Are You Friggin' Kidding Me?

One Bostonian's Misadventures in Dating

More on generic messages

Here is another example of the “generic message”. While it’s simple and sweet, and I’m sure the guy is a nice guy, it’s so….blah.

Hello there,

how are you and how was your day? I hope it was nice. Mine was pretty good. How is your night? I hope it’s going on well.

While I was reading through your profile I came to notice that you seem like an interesting person and one I would like to get to know more. Can you please tell me more about yourself if you don’t mind?

I hope this simple introductory note catches your attention so that this marks a start of a wonderful friendship that will lead to a lot more.

Nice night

Do you see what I mean? It’s…nice. Could be worse, I guess. But….meh. WHAT ABOUT ME IS INTERESTING? He could have named SOMETHING!

Now, here’s an example of an AMAZING first message. This message is from The Baseball Date guy. Let me tell you, I saw his profile first and had no interest in him. He messaged me when he saw that I checked him out and his message was so great, that I gave him a chance. There are a few points in his message that will look odd to an outsider that doesn’t know what my profile says, but trust me, it’s all good.

I have you say you have one of the coolest background I have ever heard of! That’s awesome that you made the sacrifice of serving, Thank You! I have nothing but the up most respect for the men and women in the armed forces.

So the Sox, Flyers and Duke is an interesting combo, how’d that come to be? Your dislikes cracked me up I also Hate the Yankees, “stupid people” who know it all, it’s painful to listen to aka hippies. Walking on the wrong side of the side walk and fancy beers (nothing worse then a beer snob). How are you surviving with all the hipsters in ______ :p

I always wonder how I would fair in a zombie apocalypse as well. I’d like to think I would go down in a blaze of glory firing off machine guns in the middle of the street so others could survive or thinking of some way to out smart them. (Side note I’m looking forward to the next season of the walkking dead) I also wonder why we put race on an application in 2011.

I have a large group of female friends who i call “the sisters” they are awesome. I think a huge thing for me is being able to get along and have fun with everyone, jealousy will always kill a good time.

FYI a girl that speaks her mind and is not afraid of anyone/anything is an amazingly awesome thing! I’d do my best to get you out… :p

I hope to hear from you soon.

SEE WHAT I MEAN? First impressions, people! They matter!!

I'm a single late 20s chick, living in Boston. I go on a lot of horrible dates, but some good ones, too.

  1. It is robot mail. The give-away is it’s very blandness, and the tiny grammatical errors. If you responded, you’d get more of the same.

  2. I feel like the guy on top is about to tell you about his former career as a Nigerian Prince…

  3. Couldn’t agree more!! People need to actually read my profile and not just send me some stupid generic message!!
