One Bostonian's Misadventures in Dating

The Swede (for one day only!)

This is a bittersweet post. It was a VERY awesome “date”, but nothing can really come of it, except for a great long distance friendship.

On Sunday, I got a message from a guy on this dating site. He said he was in Boston for the weekend, but leaving the next night. He said he hadn’t gotten to see much of the city since he was working, but wanted to see as much as he could the next day before his flight. He asked me if I was interested in showing him around. I looked at his profile and saw that he was from Sweden and immediately said yes. Since you all don’t know me, you don’t know my obsession with Sweden. I visited there a few years ago for a month and fell madly in love with the country. So this Swede wants a tour of Boston, my beloved city? YES, PLEASE.

I was lucky enough to have the day off. Thank goodness! I met up with him in the morning outside his hotel. He left his bags with the concierge and off we went. We went ALL over the place- Fenway, Charlestown, the North End, Faneuil Hall, Newbury Street, Boston Common, etc. It was fantastic. The conversation was awesome! He helped me with my Swedish during our time together. He was very sweet and used his expense account to pay for my lunch and coffees throughout the day (totally unexpected). In total, we spent about 7-8 hours together. He told me that I was very easy to spend time with because I wasn’t pushy and just very laid back. It was a very innocent day.

We’ve been keeping in touch since he left last night. He inspired me to get moving on my social media career (he works in the video game industry. He’s actually quite the superstar, so I won’t put too much info about him here so that this doesn’t get back to him). He told me that I helped him fall in love with Boston (actually, he says that he and Boston “have a fling now”) and that he wants to come back very soon. I offered my place for him to stay next time he visited. He also made me long for Stockholm (which I already do on a daily basis, but even more so now) and told me that I need to come visit him as soon as possible. As soon as I can afford the plane ticket, I will.

So while this wasn’t actually a “date” per say, it was still an awesome experience. Not all guys are creeps!

I'm a single late 20s chick, living in Boston. I go on a lot of horrible dates, but some good ones, too.

  1. aw, it sounds like a lovely adventure. probably fun t see the city through new eyes, as well.

  2. I think you could count this as a date. A very lovely one indeed. =) Swedish boys are most definitely a catch, a friend of mine caught one while she was traveling abroad during college…they’ve been together ever since.

  3. I’m happy that this “Swede” did his part to restore your faith in my gender. 😉
