Are You Friggin' Kidding Me?

One Bostonian's Misadventures in Dating

Communication is Key (Cliche, I know)

I think the biggest issue I have with dating is communication, or lack thereof. Now, in general, I am a very chill lady. I’m not the jealous type, I don’t get all crazy. I’m fairly rational and I’m laid back. But when you don’t communicate with me properly, all that appears to go out the window.

Here’s the issue: When I send you a message saying “Hey, I had a good time! Thanks!”, send one back saying “No problem!” or “I’m sorry, but I’m not interested.” or SOMETHING. Now, I don’t expect you to reply RIGHT AWAY, but seriously. Don’t let a week go by with nothing.

Most girls I know would send more text messages or would have called at that point. I try not to be so “desperate”. If you’re not going to message me back, fine. I won’t message you either.

I think what I hate the most is that if I were to send more messages, or if I were to call him and be like “Haven’t heard from you.  We cool?”, I would come off as “crazy”. When did asking for normal communication become crazy? I’m not expecting you to talk to me 24/7. Like I said, I’m very laid back. But don’t ignore me completely! That’s not cool. If you’re not interested, JUST SAY SO. It’ll save us both a lot of time and energy.

So guys, just be straight up with girls. Even if you do have a crazy one on your hands, it’s better to get her out sooner rather later, right? So if you’re not interested, just tell us and we’ll leave you alone.

I really thought I had more to say on this and I’m sure I do…I’m just too irritated to put coherent thoughts together.

I'm a single late 20s chick, living in Boston. I go on a lot of horrible dates, but some good ones, too.

  1. So brutal. Texting has warped communication so bad. The non-response drives me nuts.
